Snowtunes Pt 1
Bounce-Danko Jones-My Love is Bold-1999-Rock: A conservative choice from my list, this song is a fantastic pick, great beat, good bass, lots of distortion and pretty catchy. This group is infamous for their tunes being on my list, just something about them. Danko Jones- Bounce
Paper Wings-Rise Against-Siren Song of the Counter Culture-2004-Punk: This band is also infamous for being on my list, don’t be surprised to see more on here in the coming times. This song is a super catchy tune by Rise Against you may have never heard, more poppy then some stuff from this disc but still great. I have seen them live, absolutely fantastic band even live! Rise Against- Paper Wings
Hit the Lights-Metallica-Kill ’Em All-1983-Metal: Now I don’t know how many people listen to Metal on their way down the hill but I love it, It’s fast, tons of energy and raw emotion and I couldn’t think of a better song; blazing fast solos, super quick drum beat and a headbanger chorus. I don’t care if your a Metallica hater or just a metal hater, check this song out, it’s pretty old school thrash metal. Metallica- Hit the Lights
Smart Went Crazy-Atmosphere-You Can’t Imagine How Much Fun Were Having-2005-Hip-Hop/Rap: I heard this song ironically while looking a trailer for Stoked, a snowboard video game that came out last year. This was the first rap song that ever got on my playlist, has great beat, tight lyrics and an approachable sound. Atmosphere- Smart Went Crazy

- Monster Hospital MSTRKRFT Remix-Live it Out-2006-Alternative/House: I am a big fan of Metric and remember seeing this song’s original version on Much Music (before it got bad) and thinking,”this video is f^$#^% “. But in truth this song is great and so is its remix by infamous electro group MSTRKRFT (formed by Jesse F. Keeler of Death From Above 1979). By all means of course, please listen to the original if this one doesn’t do it for you, check out Metric in general. Metric- Monster Hospital MSTRKRFT Remix
PT 2
Die, All Right!-The Hives-Veni Vidi Vicious-2000: My top 3 songs here start with some euro flavour. The Hives here are straight out of Sweden and are booming with there own blend of speedy punk-pop-rock that is nothing but high energy, great song for doing runs down the lift line.
Intergalactic/Robot Rock-Beastie Boys/Daft Punk-Dark2Reaper-2008: This next song is an interesting twist on the French Dj Duo Daft Punk’s Robot Rock by a Dj on Youtube, I love mash-ups but many lack flow and togetherness…well look no further. My favourite fan mash-up ever!

This is my Head Exploding-Disco Ensemble-First Aid Kit-2005: I originally heard this song off and older EA sports NHL 0X game, cannot place which one. This indie punk band is right out of Finland (Land of the Lakes) is a mix between hardcore punk and the more radio friendly pop stuff. Check it out.
I’m Housin-Rage Against the Machine-Renegades-2000: Rage Against the Machine always seems to be on my snowboard playlist, usually do to its super snowboard friendly album, Evil Empire, though is not from that album. From their all covers tribute album Renegades.I’m Housin is a quasi rap song with guitarist Tom Morello putting his special touch on the song.
Accidents-Alexisonfire-Watch Out-2004: The first song I ever heard from this wonderful hardcore punk band. When I first saw this song on Much I couldn’t help but head bang to its infectious rhythm and chorus even if I was a little unsure what to think of screaming in those days. There is one sure thing about it though, this song being on my playlist is no accident.
Snowtunes Pt.3
1.Danger! Danger!-Electric Six-Fire-2003Stop! Watch this video right now…But wait before you do, do you remember that subaru commercial with all the sumo wrestlers washing the car? If you do, awesome this is that song! If you don’t, look for that video as well and watch it, fricken’ hilarious! Ok seen the video now? Good? Equally as strange right? The song in my opinion is super catchy. It’s strangely infectious! Also, that girl that was singing…well the actual singer actually wasn’t a girl! It’s Jack White! Imagine that…
2.Hang You From the Heavens-The Dead Weather-Horehound-2009This group also includes Jack White. Listen to the song if you can before watching the video. Ok, if you know Jack White he’s normally the singer…and of course on this track you wouldn’t think any differently, but guess again. Jack Whites not singing this time round. The singer in fact was a fill in singer for Jack White for The Raconteurs when he fell ill and the singer’s band was opening for them. She sounded perfect so they hit it off and made a record! The strange tempo of this song is almost haunting and the drum’s and guitar’s droning ambiance fit perfectly. Give the song a listen, I don’t doubt this bluesy medley will be in your library soon.
3.Guilt By Association-Louis IV-Slick Dogs and Ponies-2008Talk about haunting voices and strange groups on this set of tunes. This group straight out of United States sports a uniquely French name with a very odd swagger about it. The lead singer’s voice is almost along the same pitch as the late Bon Scott of AC/DC, and that’s just who they are. They have a very menacing tone in this song in particular. Check out the rest of there stuff on youtube or wherever, there’s a little bit for everyone.
4.Assassin-Muse-Black Holes and Revelations-2006I really shouldn’t have this song on my snowboard playlist. I guarantee I’ll either pump myself up or completely embarrass myself, or maybe the both at the same time. This song’s opening has a wicked drum line on the verge of a solo that I can’t help but air-drum to! This band is an all time favorite of mine that has such a vast catalog of sounds that anyone can grow fond of; from slow ballads and haunting melodies to catchy pop songs and well..this..chaos. Hit up Muse, now, everyone else will be doing it soon. They’re already huge in Europe!
5.1000 Cigarettes-MSTRKRFT-Fist of God-2009Now the last time I heard MSTRKRFT reference anywhere was when I saw a video with their music 3 years back that had robots and I thought was pretty cool. Then I heard their remix of Monster Hospital by Metric in a friend’s iPod and I sampled all the stuff off their Myspace page right away. Little did I know that the group was a side project off an old favorite of mine, Death From Above 1979 (Romantic Rights anyone?). This song is straight electro. Don’t know what electro is? Think…Daft Punk. Check it out, I don’t think my vernacular is expansive enough to describe this song.
Snowtunes Pt.4
1.Kids- MGMT- Oracular Spectacular
Kids…Yeah you’ve heard it 1000 times and you know it’s overplayed, but does that change how good it was the first time you heard it? The song got me back into europop and electronica right after I realized how good this song was. The entire album is fantastic and I urge you to go out there and pick up the disc, if you enjoy this song you will enjoy the rest.
2.Typical- Mute Math- Mute Math
This song has almost a big room feel about it, the sound almost just echoes out of your speakers. A great little guitar riff, heavy drums and a strong vocal accompaniment help establish this environment. Give it a listen. The band was Grammy award nominated…come on give it a listen
3.Cry of the Blackbirds- Amon Amarth- With Oden On Our Side
Like metal? At all? Even a little? Please? Ok well this song is bridging more along the lines of death metal and Norse themed metal but don’t let this deter you. The first time I heard this song was on That’s it That’s all and coupled with the slow motion rotations and buckets of snow, it only seems fitting to have this epic metal track with snowboarding.
4.Train of Consequences- Megadeth-Youthansia
Another metal track from one of the kings of thrash metal and if you think the name seems a little intimidating…they’re practically Metallica, a little heavier than Metallica, but poppier at some times. This so ng has a great rhythm and is a great starter song to get you into their music.
5.Come Out Swinging- The Offspring- Conspiracy of One
Like pop punk? Like tunes that will make you wanna hit that jump? Pump you up? Look no further. This song’s rediculously fast driving beat will kick you into overdrive and get you moving down that hill like a mad man. Check out this awesome punk beat.
Snowtunes PT.5

The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.
