Job, Food, Videos/Vegas, New Roomie and Snow tunes Pt.4

Hey! Sorry I’ve been a little tardy with posts and updates as far as consistency goes but I’m back. It’s been a busy week and it’s only getting busier! I went in with Mat for the first of many job training and orientation meetings with the Rockford staff. The restaurant is shaping up to be an extremely valuable addition to the Nelson lodge and to the Culinary scene in general here in Revelstoke. I can’t wait till the end of the month to start reviewing the menu so I can be first in line for a pay raise and flexible hours.

So as you may have seen several videos and clips have been updated to the blog every few days over the last 2 weeks. Colton and I have been gathering footage every time we have been boarding and hiking so we decided we would assemble a few shorts just to perk the interest of our current viewers and readers and hopefully attract new ones as well. I have produced all 3 videos alongside Colton using Sony Vegas 9.0 Pro. The software is new and more difficult than most video editing software I have used, but the payoff is in the quality. The first video is littered with effects that I had been testing out to try and learn the ropes of Vegas. The 2nd video is far simpler and hailed as quite a bit better even while lacking innovative footage. The 3rd video has been uploaded in 2 different formats, Colton’s first solo crack at Vegas and my own interpretation of the day’s short but sweet footage. So check both videos and give me some feedback, I’d love to hear what you find is better or worse in each video so we can improve our styles to suit better our audiences.

As of Friday, we will have 6 people in the house, 4 upstairs and 2 in the basement. Our newest addition to the house is the first and only girl to be living with us.Jordi Richards. This may seem like a conflict of interest in this pure man house but I have confidence in her playful and relaxed attitude allowing her to get along with the rest of the crew. She already has met 3 of us formerly excluding the older members(my brother and Ross) since she went to school with us in the same grade. I hope not only does she bring a new outlook on snowboarding to the household but hopefully a good personality to help round out the testosterone filled house. I can’t wait!

So snowtunes! Well…It’s the most viewed page on the website and I can barely keep it updated enough to keep people satisfied. These 5 new tunes will add some metal to round out some of the popper and more electronic tunes already included in my library since my real playlist is loaded with tons of metal.

Snowtunes Pt.

1.Kids- MGMT- Oracular Spectacular

Kids…Yeah you’ve heard it 1000 times and you know it’s overplayed, but does that change how good it was the first time you heard it? The song got me back into europop and electronica right after I realized how good this song was. The entire album is fantastic and I urge you to go out there and pick up the disc, if you enjoy this song you will enjoy the rest.

2.Typical- Mute Math- Mute Math

This song has almost a big room feel about it, the sound almost just echoes out of your speakers. A great little guitar riff, heavy drums and a strong vocal accompaniment help establish this environment. Give it a listen. The band was Grammy award nominated…come on give it a listen

3.Cry of the Blackbirds- Amon Amarth- With Oden On Our Side

Like metal? At all? Even a little? Please? Ok well this song is bridging more along the lines of death metal and Norse themed metal but don’t let this deter you. The first time I heard this song was on That’s it That’s all and coupled with the slow motion rotations and buckets of snow, it only seems fitting to have this epic metal track with snowboarding.

4.Train of Consequences- Megadeth-Youthansia

Another metal track from one of the kings of thrash metal and if you think the name seems a little intimidating…they’re practically Metallica, a little heavier than Metallica, but poppier at some times. This so ng has a great rhythm and is a great starter song to get you into their music.

5.Come Out Swinging- The Offspring- Conspiracy of One

Like pop punk? Like tunes that will make you wanna hit that jump? Pump you up? Look no further. This song’s rediculously fast driving beat will kick you into overdrive and get you moving down that hill like a mad man. Check out this awesome punk beat.

Went out hiking again today and found an interesting spot to catch some shots of big air (big bails) , not enough footage to release independently but it should make it into the next teaser. Going out again tomorrow, will edit the blog if I have some time after, hoping to start a little video archive, throw down some more snowtunes, update bios, and maybe I’ll throw some recipes down for those who want a little taste of what ive been cooking up here all this time. Remember to check the video below and drop some comments, I’m just starting with movie editing in Sony Vegas so criticism is needed!

Lazy Days and Big White Report

So I just spent my entire day browsing music, sleeping, playing video games and waiting for the world to end. I’m pretty sure I was about to off myself due to boredom and then everyone got home from Big White so….yeah I stayed at home while Ross, Colton and Mat went to opening day at Big White. My excuse? I am flat broke. :D So yeah I sunk low today… I munched on peanut butter sandwiches and played Call of Duty all day… big whoop! What do you do all day when all your friends are out of town, you have no money, job hasn’t started yet and there is no snow to utilize within walking distance? Yeah, that’s what I thought, you play virtual war with whining 12 year olds online for a few hours while munching on cooked flour and peanut oil butter products while sipping at a 2l water bottle… That’s how cool I am, well at least today. My monotonous day did have one shard of emotion. I got a text early on from Colton that said something along the lines of…

“F@%# I almost died, Ross’ Jeep spun out on the ice and we hit a median. Luckily everyone is ok and the Jeep is fine, so we’re gonna press on, if I do die tell everyone I love them”

“How touching and out of place for Colton…” was the first thing I thought of weirdly…not “Oh S%&# I’m glad they’re ok”…I’m an awesome person. Luckily Mat was wearing a helmet in the back…Yeah I know… So when his head smacked and broke Ross’ binding he didn’t injure himself. Sadly even though reports said the park chair was open…No Park! Mat was bummed. The gondola also broke down for 20 minutes so that also took away from the experience. Finally, There were only 2 or so chairs even open with a 60cm base layer of snow…HA! Take that Big White, Revelstoke has got 1 metre plus in some areas! But other then that from what they told me it wasn’t entirely a let down.

So after everyone returned home Ross is now taking over my place on the couch and getting his Call of Duty Fix while everyone else is sleeping. Where was Adam in all this you might think? Adam’s sleep schedule is completely screwed up so he stayed up all night/morning and ended up staying up all day as well up to 7pm, what a champ! So now he’s back on track hopefully.

Well that’s all I have for today, tomorrow I’ll throw up 5 more Snowtunes and I’ll throw up some details on my upcoming job start at the mountain. Cheers.
